As part of an overall effort to implement waste management solutions, the City of Corner Brook is pleased to be partnering with the Multi-Materials Stewardship Board (MMSB) to offer backyard compost bins to residents at a reduced rate. In addition, residents will have an opportunity to participate in an educational training session on successful backyard composting.
The City has 300 bins available and is offering them at a subsidized price of $20 plus HST. The compost bins can be purchased in advance and will be available for pick up at City Hall on May 18, 2011 from 11 am – 2 pm on Municipal Awareness Day. Residents can pay for compost bins at City Hall prior to the event; this will allow the event to run smoothly and cut down on the waiting time.
To ensure each resident is sufficiently knowledgeable about how to use their bin and what to expect a free information session on how to properly compost will take place May 16th, 2011 from 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm at the Pepsi Center, Meeting Room 1. To determine the number of participants, residents are asked to register with the City for this session and be among the first to sign up for a bin.
For more information or to register please call 637-1630 or email compost@cornerbrook.com. Residents are encouraged to attend this valuable session and be the first to sign up for a compost bin. Information can also be found on the City’s website at www.cornerbrook.com.
