Now in our second year!

Overnight nature camps available in July and August 2016 for 7-14 year-olds.

Activities will include swimming, canoeing, campfires, storytelling, arts and crafts, map-reading, hiking adventures, yoga, games, and much more…

Campers will eat delicious homemade meals, that will include food from our on-site vegetable garden, and see what its like to get their electricity from the wind!

Registration opens March 10th, 2016 – Early Bird rate to March 31st.

Our 2016 Conference is purposefully taking place in the Heart of the Turtle Mountains in the geographic centre of Turtle Island. For three days you will be able to experience a place without boundaries. Situated on the 49th parallel, the International Peace Garden recognizes no boundaries – a perfect setting to “think outside the box”. Wildflowers, pristine lakes and over one hundred species of songbirds are residents of the Peace Garden. Our choices today will determine the future we leave for our grandchildren and their grandchildren. COP21 in Paris was about Climate Change and ultimately was about the change(s) we are prepared to make to provide hope for future generations. This conference will provide educators with new hope, ideas, tools and resources, and will look at choices to make this culture of change a reality. Two Summer Positions – Oceans Learning Partnerships (OLP)

Oceans Learning Partnership is planning to hire two post-secondary students as educators this summer (May to August) with our partners.  One position will be based in Terra Nova National Park with our friends at Park Canada, and the other is a shared staff position shared between Petty Harbour Mini Aquarium, the Ocean Sciences Centre, and our program in Holyrood.  The applicants must meet the requirements for the Canada Summer Job grant (student, returning to studies in September, between ages of 15 and 30, legally entitled to work in Canada).Job Opportunity_Marine Educator_2016Job Opportunity_OLP Science Educator_Terra Nova

“Going Green “

Did you know that frogs can tell us if the stream is clean? It’s not easy being green, but we can work together to keep the watershed healthy and strong for all the critters that live there. Learn how we can help all of our Freshwater Friends by Going Green ourselves!

Every Saturday and Sunday from April 2-30 at 1:30pm

Program runs approx. 45-60 minutes

This Fluvarium Kids program is Family Fun and can include an outdoor component, game, story and craft!

Have you heard? Kids ages 5–10 and their families are invited to join Fluvarium Kids! Receive updates, collect stickers, and earn a Fluvarium Kids Fresh Water Friends certificate when you attend sessions in four different months!

PUBLIC TALK – Northern Cod Fisheries Improvement Project

What is the status of the Northern Newfoundland Cod population?  One of the biggest threats to healthy ocean ecosystems is the demand for and procurement of unsustainable seafood.  Last year WWF-Canada and the Fish, Food and Allied Workers Union (FFAW) started a harvester-driven project that aims to help an historic northern Newfoundland cod fishery return to health. This is a big deal because this fishery has been under a fishing moratorium since 1992. The stock is now showing good signs of recovery and if it’s managed right might grow to healthy levels.

ACAP Humber Arm invites you to join our next Coastal Matters presentation where Ms. Janice Ryan, Fisheries Advisor with WWF Canada will speak about WWF’s ocean conservation work in NL, with a focus on their exciting Northern Cod Fisheries Improvement Project, followed by a Q&A with the audience.  This talk will take place 12:30 to 1:20pm, Thursday, March 17th in room 3019 of the Forest Centre, Grenfell Campus, Corner Brook.

As with all Coastal Matters presentations this session is free of charge and open to the public. RSVP’s not required.  Tea and coffee will be available; feel free to bring your own bagged lunch.  Please help us promote this session by forwarding this email to your contacts and/or displaying the attached poster at your workplace.
