Forest Issues Coordinator Assistant

Primary responsibility is to help coordinate community outreach and research in the field of sustainable community forests in Newfoundland and Labrador and develop environmental campaigns and educational programs.
More specifically, your responsibilities include:
- Liaising with individuals, industries, community groups, businesses, non-governmental agencies, and governments to build formal and informal partnerships with regards to sustainable forest issues in NL
- Organizing the Coalition for Sustainable Forests in NL
- Providing updates for the cpawsnl website
- Providing support and coordination for the Board of Directors and the volunteer Stakeholder Committee
- Implementing projects based on CPAWS-NL’s comprehensive mission and vision statements
- Promoting and marketing the organization
This is a SWASP position
Students are required to complete a 280-hour community service placement (normally over 8 weeks) and will:
- Develop transferable employment skills;
- Receive career-related experience;
- Establish future employment networks in the voluntary community-based and public sectors;
- Receive a $1,400 Tuition Voucher, redeemable at any recognized post-secondary institution; and
- Receive an $1,400 stipend over the course of the placement.
ELIGIBILITY
Students must meet ALL these criteria (international students are NOT eligible):
- Must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or refugee under Immigration Refugee Protection Act; and
- Must be planning to attend a post-secondary institution on a full time basis in the coming academic year; and
- Must have been registered as full time students in the previous academic year; and
- Must be between 15 and 30 years old (inclusive); and
- May NOT hold another full time job (30 hours per week or more) while on the SWASP placement; and
- May NOT be attending classes full-time while on the SWASP placement.

Clean Up Corner Brook
Clean Up Corner Brook
The City of Corner Brook are encouraging individuals and groups to donate at least 30 minutes of their time on May 6th & May 7th to pick up litter on their respective properties and parking lots, neighbourhood streets, or to adopt a public green space.
Clean Up Corner Brook hopes to mobilize residents, community groups, businesses, institutions and schools on the theory that many hands make short work. It not only improves the appearance of the city, it also highlights the sense of community spirit that exits in Corner Brook, and demonstrates the responsibility we feel towards the protection of the environment. Everyone is encouraged to select a particular part of town to clean up the litter. It may be a residential road, perhaps a neighbourhood park or public green space.

Duties:
The successful applicant will assist with information and visitor services at the Botanical Garden under the supervision of the Education Coordinator and the Environmental Education Assistant.
Duties include assisting visitors; staffing the front desk and answering inquiries; booking school and group programs; staffing receptions and special events; answering the telephone and responding to or directing inquiries; processing cash, debit, and credit card transactions; supervising seasonal staff and volunteers; and performing other related duties as assigned. Weekend and some evening work required.
Qualifications:
Extensive supervisory experience required; in customer service and retail environments an asset. Graduation from high school, supplemented by related courses; or equivalent combination of experience and training. Applicants must be able to work independently; possess excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills; and be comfortable using a computer and the Microsoft Office suite. Interest and or knowledge in Newfoundland gardening, natural history, and the outdoors would be an asset.

- Serve as WWF’s regional expert on fisheries science and management.
o Develop and communicate recommendations for improving fisheries management, ranging from gear-based solutions to the implementation of the Precautionary Approach (PA), within domestic and international fisheries management frameworks.
o Provide advice on sustainability criteria for priority fishery certifications.
o Maintain and strengthen working relationships with WWF’s national and international team.
- Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders to advance marine conservation priorities.

Duties
The Outdoor Education Assistant will assist the District’s Outdoor Education Teacher with the safe and
effective delivery of the District’s Residential Outdoor Education Program. The six week spring program
includes units on weather, teambuilding, archaeology and poetry, as well as hiking and other outdoor
activities.
The successful applicant will work closely with the Outdoor Education Teacher, Parks Canada
Interpreters, visiting teachers and parent chaperones. He/she will assist with the delivery of programs,
maintain equipment and enhance program resources. As well the successful candidate will assist with the
onsite orientation of teachers, parents and students.
The position will operate from the Killdevil Camp and Conference Centre located in Gros Morne
National Park. Depending upon weekly camp requirements the successful candidate will be required to
work from 21 to 42 hours per week with a requirement for overnight stays at Killdevil camp. One camp
may take place in Red Bay, Labrador, with travel included to that site.
Preferred Qualifications
-A post secondary degree or diploma in a related field
-Experience in program supervision and proven leadership abilities
-Experience and/or training with teaching children in an outdoor environment
-Some knowledge of natural and cultural history
-A Current First Aid certification

Outreach Coordinator (Model Forest NL)
The Model Forest of Newfoundland and Labrador is inviting applications for the position of Outreach Coordinator. As well, community capacity building will be featured as an essential element of this process.
