Indian Bay Ecosystem Corporation (IBEC) is a membership driven not-for-profit organization focused on the conservation and enhancement of our watershed. For over 20 years IBEC has been engaged in management and stewardship activities including mobilizing and conducting valuable ecosystem research. Located within the watershed is a field research station with office space, classroom facilities, laboratories and chalets among other amenities. IBEC strives to improve the understanding and management of our watershed through ecosystem-based research.

The Indian Bay Ecosystem Corporation is seeking an outdoor/conservation enthusiast to lead the organization in the realization of our mission. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director provides leadership in fulfilling the following key responsibilities:

• Position IBEC as an ecosystem management leader in hosting and mobilizing research;
• Establish a Communication Plan to increase membership and promote awareness of IBEC and it’s field research station;
• Serve as a champion and primary spokesperson of IBEC to the membership, public and partners;
• Develop a strategy to increase utilization of the field research station;
• Attract new funding and revenue to reduce the reliance on government funding;
• Oversee the management and overall direction of the organizations day-to-day activities, as well as the implementation and monitoring of projects;
• Develop partnerships and other agreements that align with the goals and advancement of the organization;
• Engage and advise the Board of Directors to maintain a strong, productive and motivated Board.

Qualifications and Experience:
The ideal candidate for this position will have the rare ability to act as fundraiser, strategist, champion and manager. He/She will be an innovative leader with a passion for the outdoors.
• Demonstrated leadership in a forward-thinking organization with a background in strategic thinking and programs;

• Successful track record of sourcing funding and proposal writing
• Board relations and governance skills;
• Outstanding communication skills including computer skills with Microsoft Office and website development;
• The ability to inspire, represent and connect with the membership, partners and other stakeholders;
• Partnership and relationship building skills;
• Strong conflict management skills with good judgment and a level-headed approach to leading and managing;
• Research experience and the ability to liaison with academic institutions.

Travel:
A valid drivers licence and use of a private vehicle to travel to the field study station is required.

Salary
$45 000 – $55 000 depending on qualifications and experience

The Kelligrews Ecological Enhancement Program – Student Employment Positions

The Kelligrews Ecological Enhancement Program (KEEP) is an NGO dedicated to environmental conservation and education. KEEP is seeking outgoing and energetic post secondary students/graduates to fill the following positions:

1. Summer projects coordinator
2. Conservation intern

These positions include outdoor work and candidates should be prepared to work in inclement weather. Successful candidates should have strong written and oral communication skills, as well as solid time management and organizational skills. Previous experience with GIS mapping, event coordination, and report and proposal writing is an asset. The Summer Projects Coordinator position requires a vehicle; KEEP pays mileage at current government rates.

East Coast Trail Association – Recreational Hikes

Path: Cape Spear Path (Cape Spear to Maddox Cove)

Meeting Location: Meet in the Cape Spear National Historic Site parking lot.

Note: Some vehicles will be left at Cape Spear and hikers will be transported to Maddox Cove for the actual start of the hike. What better than a hike on Canada Day which terminates at a National Historic Site? The hike out to North Head will be included if hikers wish.

Meeting Location: Meet at Lawlors Services, Lawlors Road, Cappahayden. Continue straight ahead where Highway 10 turns inland at Cappahayden.

Note: Preregistration, at least five days in advance, is required. The maximum is 15 hikers, with priority given to ECTA members.

This path from Cappahayden to Chance Cove Provincial Park is an undeveloped section of the ECT. Expect a variety of hiking conditions, from roadway, rough trail and moose path to bush-wacking, trackless bog and river crossings with knee or waist-deeo water. Good hiking boots and tough, long pants are mandatory. Bring lots of food, drink and fly-dope and enjoy the orchids!

NAACAP Outreach Assistant – Student employment

July 11th to August 26th

NAACAP is a non-profit organisation that works to protect and enhance the rivers of the Northeast Avalon region. We require an Outreach Assistant to help us with our volunteer and partner activities.

The Outreach Assistant will be involved with promoting/organising NAACAPs volunteer activities. As well, this person will work with other students on a wide range of activities to garner public support for river and water conservation.

The Outreach Assistant is expected to have a working knowledge of rivers, good writing skills, confidence and experience in dealing with the public and a willingness to learn new things. This person must have been a fulltime student within the last academic year.

NAACAP offers a friendly work environment. NAACAP will also give the outreach assistant the opportunity to become involved in our other river activities. This is an opportunity for the right student to take ownership of a project and be crucial to its success .

$12 per hour 35 hour week

Music and Songs to Right the Wrongs: Enjoy an Evening of Early Music In celebration of Canada's Ancient Lakes and Living Waters

The Mercy Centre for Ecology and Justice and The Sandy Pond Alliance for the protection of Canada’s Waters present a program of early instrumental and choral music. Featured is the Mercy Centre for Ecology and Justice Youth Choir and Guests. The choir is a group of young musicians who combine their talents and love for music with a commitment to environmental and humanitarian causes. Also featuring the newly restored Casavant pipe organ and organist, Robin Williams.
