LOCATION — Meet at Robin Hood Bay, 340 East White Hills Road, by 8:50am
DATE — Saturday, June 11, 9 am -12 noon
MORE INFO — The plastic bag clean-up on the section of the Sugarloaf Path downhill and downwind of the landfill at Robin Hood Bay will take place this year again with the assistance of the City of St. John’s. We will be cleaning up the – mostly plastic bags – that are trapped in the forest directly alongside the trail. Old clothing, long pants ,long sleeves and work gloves are recommended. Sturdy ankle support boots or hiking boots are required due to the uneven terrain. A hat and insect repellent might be a good idea. If you have protective eye wear please bring it. The ECTA will also have available eye goggles to prevent corneal abrasion. A spring rake can be handy to reach or gather the plastic debris. Bring a bottle of drinking water.
Participants must be age 17 and sign an ECTA waiver
Children 12-16 in the care of a parent or sole caregiver are also welcome
The City provides large bags and bus transportation to steps within the clean up site. If you are coming as part of a group, please car pool to Robin Hood Bay if possible since there is limited parking.

GreenTeacher.com Webinar: "Greening Education with Courage and Compassion"
Monday May 30, 2011, 7:30 – 8:30 p.m. EST Webinar topic: “Greening Education with Courage and Compassion”
Presenter: Julie Johnston
Most educators don’t go into teaching because they want to become heroes, but it’s going to take courage and compassion, along with a whole lot of creativity and critical thinking, to green the heart of our education system. We are already beyond peak oil (IEA, 2010) and into dangerous greenhouse gas levels. The global climate change emergency is already impacting vulnerable regions and populations around the world, with 300,000 or more people every year losing their lives and many more losing their livelihoods, homes, food security and water sources. What should our response be? Is simply tweaking a 20th century curriculum enough, in light of 21st century realities?
This webinar will suggest some transformative and provocative “big idea” principles for greening the heart of education, and then outline what teachers need to know and need to do in order to help their students create the best possible future in a carbon-constrained and climate-changed world.
Age appropriateness: Grades K-12 (for formal educators)
